Next Zanaria auction, thanks to the quantity and quality of offered items, is achieving resounding success, to the point that
Corriere della Sera (Italian main newspaper) is talking about us.
In his article The “V.R.” (Victoria Regina) 1d black was prepared for official use, but was never issued for postal purposes. Very few obliterated specimen are known in private hands (four on cover and a few loose ones used for experimental trials of obliterating inks or passed through the post by oversight). This item was found in the Northbrook archive. Mr. Francis Baring, later created Lord Northbrook, Chancellor of the Exchequer, was responsible for the treasury competition. Four positions (PF, PH, PJ and PL) underwent a cancellation removal trial after having been coated with an unidentified type of varnish and after having been cancelled by a complete strike of the red Maltese Cross.
This lot, offered with a starting price of 50,000€, is one of the most important postal history documents in existence, and we are pleased propose it to our clients.
