The first ever Zanaria Aste srl public auction has finished, with extremely satisfying results. Attendance was high, with more than 200 people in the hall, while a large number of offers were received by correspondence and by phone. This allowed Zanaria Aste to achieve sales of more than 60%. So the results were not only good but excellent, considering the current climate, and allowed those in the know to bag themselves some real bargains.
There was plenty of interest in the Italian States sector, which opened the auction. The most sought-after pieces were those in the Postal History section.
These included the letter sent from Venice to Catania on 27th February 1853 (lot 35), which had a starting price of 2000 euros and went under the hammer for 2800 euros, which is nearly the estimate quoted by Sassone (2850 euros).
Sales of stamps from the Italian Kingdom of Italy were impressive, with around 80% of goods sold. The Kingdom was the section of records with: “Top Lot” for the advertising envelope, series 45 of 1877 “20 cent. Bigola” from 1878 (lot 698). This extremely precious envelope, which has not yet been valued by Sassone, went for some 57,500 euros. Meanwhile, successful result with the lot 517, which started at just 400 euros and rose to the remarkable figure of 4500 euros.
It was a great success all round, with plenty of interest in the lots and collections, healthy competition in the hall and very good sales results.For further information regarding these results, note that the auction sales can be consulted directly on the Zanaria Website.
